Some of us love the luxury of a super king sized bed . It has a dimension of 180 cm by 200 cm and is the largest bed available in the market. For such a bed, it is vital to select super king bed linen.
When it comes to choosing bed linen, the following criteria become important:
• Thread count
There is a general perception that a more comfortable bed sheet must feature a higher thread count. But this count is no longer regarded as a measure of quality. Unless we are talking about a very expensive and amazing fabric, a high thread count only amounts to a number game. In fact, many companies cheat in this game, by using yarns of double twist in a cheap fabric. Manufacturers also cheat by enhancing sheets with silicone softeners which disappear after the first wash. 100% cotton implies comfortable sheets and not 1000-thread count. Combed cotton or pima cotton is good but percale/ polyester blend is both good and affordable.
• Material
The type of material you select is mostly dependent on personal preference. Some of these materials are:
-Cotton: The top most quality is composed of 100% Egyptian, which features long staple fibres that produce both attractive and durable sheets.
-Supima or pima cotton: An extra-long to medium staple material of fibre, it is reputed for its sheen and softness and is slightly cheaper than Egyptian cotton.
-Linen: perfect for hot climates, such sheets are the most costly in the market, but will last for several decades. It is good for its already worn-in feel and look. Enzyme washed linens in the market are very attractive. They are durable, soft and show improvement with age.
-Poly-blend sheets: They are easy to maintain and resist wrinkles.
- Percale sheet: Provides a cool and crisp feel.
- Stretch jersey: good for a warm, soft bed.
• Weave:
The manner in which sheets have been woven have a high impact on how they feel. Percale is tightly woven and lightweight. This results in cool and crisp bedding. In case of Microfiber, its dense and super-tight weave makes it extra soft, wrinkle resistant and moisture resistant. There are also other popular weaves such as flannel with a nappy texture suiting cool climates and sateen-which is lustrous and ultra-soft.
• Patterns:
Just like other elements in a bed room, bed linen also affects the over-all aesthetics and décor. Experts recommend large, medium or small mix of patterns adhering to the same colour family. One can also experiment with prints. Patterns depend on your personal choice.
• Seasonality:
The number of sheets you require depends on how often you have the habit of changing them. But the fact is that the typical summery sheet can also work throughout the year. All you need to do is throw in a coverlet or blanket to keep your bed cosy for the winter months.
These are some tips on how to choose bed linen for your home.
